Mizoram, Ranchi teams sail into semis of Nehru Girls Hockey

New Delhi, Oct 15 (UNI) Thenzawl Higher Secondary School, Mizoram and Government Girls High School, Ranchi recorded contrasting victories to make their way to the semifinals of the 13th Nehru Girls Hockey Tournament here today.

In the quarterfinal match against NCC Punjab, Lalremruati's first half brace put the Thenzawl eves 2-0 up at half time and after the breather, R Laldinpari converted a penalty corner to round off the tally.

THe second quarterfinal match of the day, however, was keenly fought and Government Girls High School, Ranchi had to toil in the middle to get the better of Padma Raja Vidyalaya, Gwalior. The Gwalior girls equalised twice but could not protect their citadel till the end and crashed out.

Asha Kumari, Nikki Pradhan and Anila Sosan Beck scored for the winners while Ksh Aruna Devi and Jamila Bano were the goal-getter for the Gwalior team.

Bob Davidzon, an FIH member, visited the Shivaji Stadium and witnessed the match.
