Haryana Police commando dies in freak firing incident

Karnal, Oct 15 (UNI) A Haryana Police commando was killed on the spot while another was injured in a freak accident when the carbine of a fellow commando went off as it fell on the ground at the Naval Training Commando Centre here this morning, the police said.

Every year a ''Jagrata'' is organised around this time by the commandos at the centre. As the ''Jagrata'' was going on, one commando on duty, identified as Azad handed over his carbine to another Commando Rajinder at around 0500 hrs.

Sources in the CID said the carbine fell down from the hands of Rajinder and by accident it went off. The bullets hit Ramesh, a commando who was sleeping, in the chest and foot of another commando Samunder.

Ramesh died on the spot while Samunder was rushed to Trauma centre from where he was taken to Sonepat, the station he belonged to.

A case under Section 302 of IPC has been registered against Rajinder and Azad.
