Four including BJP MLA injured in 'accidental firing'

Meerut, Oct 15 (UNI) Four persons, including BJP MLA Lakshmi Kant Bajpai and two policemen, were injured in an incident of alleged ''accidental firing'' here this evening, police said.

The injured have been admitted to a private hospital and were reported to be stable.

According to police, Mr Bajpai, MLA from Meerut Sadar, was on his way back after inaugurating an election office of the party when a double barrel gun of Mohit Bharala, nephew of local leader Sunil Bharala, fell down, discharging bullets in the process.

Four people including, Mr Bajpai, were injured in the incident and were admitted to a private hospital. However, after primary treatment they were told to be out of danger, SSP Navneet Sikera informed reporters.

The gun was licensed, the SSP said, adding that Mohit has been taken into custody.
