EME Corps celebrates 63rd Raising Day
Chandigarh, Oct 15 (UNI) The 63rd Raising Day Celebrations of the Corps of Electronic and Mechanical Enginners (EME) were conducted at Chandimandir today with Maj Gen Ravi Kheterpal, MGEME, Western Command paying homage to the valiant EME soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice and laid down their lives for the country.
Lt Gen D B Singh (retd) and Col K K Sharma (retd) also laid wreaths at the Western Command War Memorail ''Veer Smritis''.
A social get-together was held at the Shivalik Officers' Institute, where a large number of serving and retired officers and their wives joined the celebrations. Lt Gen A N Aul, Chief of Staff, HQ, Western Command was the Guest of Honour at the occasion.
During the three-day celebrations, which commenced on the October 13, various functions, including a Sainik Sammelan, Barkhana and Pagal Gymkhana were organised, which were attended both by serving as well as retired EME personnel along with their families.
Corps of EME, which was raised in 1943, provides intimate engineering support to the Army's sophisticated weapon systems and equipment including tanks, guns, radars, vehicles, radio equipment and helicopter.
