CR detects 86,000 ticketless travellers, recovers Rs 2.17 cr as fine

Mumbai, Oct 15 (UNI) In a drive to curb ticketless travel on Central Railway (CR), authorities have detected 86,000 ticketless travellers including unbooked luggage and earned Rs 2.17 crore by way of fine from commuters, during the last month.

The authorities also detected 753 cases of transfer of reserved tickets, resulting in an amount of Rs 3.69 lakh being realised, besides confiscating tickets worth Rs 1.52 lakh during the month, according to an official release issued here today.

A total of 5.02 lakh cases were detected during the period from April to September this year as against 4.55 lakh cases detected during the same period in the previous year. The amount realised increased from 12.18 crore in April-September 2005 to Rs 14.31 crore this year in the corresponding period showing an increase of 17.5 per cent, the release added.
