Consultative panel regrets PDS irregularities
Itanagar, Oct 15: The Arunachal Pradesh Consultative Committee of Food Corporation of India has urged the Centre and state government to ensure timely distribution of ration at fair price shops.
The decision to this effect was taken in the backdrop of alleged irregularities of public distribution system (PDS) at 16 revenue districts of the state, sources said.
After having thorough inspection of various FCI godowns, the consultative panel found that essential food grains like rice, wheat were not reaching the targeted people despite its monthly allocated quota through government wholesale nominee and carriage contractors by FCI.
Further, PDS commodities drawn by government wholesale nominees from FCI godowns and kerosene from various oil depots located in Asom and Arunachal for last two months were yet to reach the people, the panel regretted.
Though no complaint was received from FCI godown authority, the committee observed that food grains supplied by various carriage contractors and government wholesale nominees were of low standard as per complaints received from various quarters, sources added.
