BJP MLA injured in 'accidental firing'

Lucknow, Oct 15 (UNI) BJP MLA and former minister Lakshmi Kant Bajpai was greviously injured in an incident of alleged accidental firing in Meerut this evening.

SSP (Meerut) Navneet Sikera told UNI over telephone that Mr Bajpai was sitting in the election office of BJP when weapon of a local party leader fell down, discharging bullets in the process.

Mr Bajpai, the party MLA from Meerut Sadar, and four others were injured in the incident.

He was rushed to a private nursing home where condition of those injured was reported to be ''out of danger.'' An earlier TV report had claimed that the legislator was shot at by two unidentified gunmen outside the election office of BJP.
