BJP demands capital punishment to Afzal
Patna, Oct 15: The BJP today requested President A P J Abdul Kalam not to commute the capital punishment awarded by the apex court to Parliament attack conspirator Afzal for maintaining the dignity of judiciary as well as ensuring the internal security of the country.
A delegation of the party, led by its state unit President Radha Mohan Singh, called on Bihar Governor R S Gavai and handed over a memorandum, addressed to the President, to him.
Through the memorandum, the party observed that the people would lose faith in judiciary in case mercy was shown towards Afzal. Such a step would have long lasting impact on the administrative system would be affected and the soldires fighting for the safety and security of the nation would be demoralised, the memorandum maintained.
The momorandum also highlighted the activities of the terrorists in the nation in the recent past.
