Bangladeshi immigrants will be given Indian citizenship

Pune, Oct 15 (UNI) Former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma has said that illegal Bangladeshi immigrants will now be given Indian citizenship.

Sangma was speaking to mediapersons here yesterday at a function at MIT school.

To a query regarding the issue of illegal Bangladeshis, he said that some proposal for them has been suggested.

As per the proposal that has been accepted by the Meghalaya Government, Asom Gana Parishad and the Congress, Bangladeshi immigrants who have come to India before March 25, 1971 will be given Indian citizenship and those who have come after the said date will be issued work permits, he added.
