Balwant, Grewal book berth in Ranjitgarh Club team

Ludhiana, Oct 15 (UNI) Balwant Singh and J S Grewal booked their place in the Ranjitgarh Golf Club team for the Northern Zone regional final of the McDowell's Signature Club Golf Championship.

In the intra-club tournament, the first stage of the multi-city event, here today, Balwant who tallied 33 Stableford points emerged as the winner in the 0-8 category while Grewal emerged as the runner-up with 32 Stableford points.

The duo were joined by Paramvir Grewal and Brig SS Gill who were the winner and runner-up respectively in the 9-16 handicap category.

Paramvir scored 39 Stableford points while the runner-up aggregated 37 points. Also filling in the last two spots of the Ranjitgarh Golf Club were Dr JS Gill and Ms Manjit Kaur who emerged as the winner and runner-up in the 17-24 category scoring 34 and 27 Stableford points, respectively.

The McDowell's Signature Club Golf Championship 2006 will bring together over 4,000 golfers representing 30 top golf clubs from 20 cities across the country. The Championships will culminate in the Grand Finale to be held in Malaysia, to decide the McDowell's Signature Champion Golf Club of India.

Apart from the main prize, several exciting spot prizes were on offer to keep every participant enthused. TPS Gurung won the Longest Drive (overall) and bagged an any destination Kingfisher Airlines ticket.

The Outlook Closest to Pin was won by JS Grewal. The McDowell's Closet to Pin was won by Siddarth Sharma while N Sharma was the lucky winner in the draw of lots on the Signature hole.

The prizes were given away by Additional DGP RS Gill who is also the president of the club.
