Autofest-2006 begins at SVNIT
Surat, Oct 15: Vintage cars used in the time of Second World War, vintage bikes, riot control vehicles and locally made hybrid vehicles, all these find a place in the Autofest-2006 which began at Sardar Vallabhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) here.
Apart from the vintage and locally made hybrid vehicles many new age racing cars and superbikes are also on dispalay in the Autofest.
Major companies like Hero Honda, Yamaha and Hyundai are also participating in the two-day event which started yesterday.
A rare attraction of the fest is the hybrid bikes designed by Manay Banarsi, a Surat based mechanic. Manay could create a new bike based on any design given to him. He creates superbikes after the world renowned models, using local machines and parts.
Another attraction at the fest is a solar assisted car designed by S A Channiwala, which is considered to be one of the first solar assisted vehicles designed in the country. An LPG-driven autorikshaw designed by Channiwala is also on display.
Another unique vehicle that displayed is a car made on cycle wheels, which can be used as a transmit vehicle for local use.
Students from various IITs are participating in the robotics event, quiz competitions and paper presentations organised as part of the Autofest-2006. The event is organised by the Mechanical Engineering department of SVNIT.
