Australia seeks a younger selector to replace Border

Sydney, Oct 15 (UNI) Cricket Austrlia (CA) wants a younger selector to replace former captain Allan Border in line with the world champion side's preparation for a generational change with some of its all-time great players set to retire in the next two years.

CA has decided to appoint a recently retired player preferably from the Steve Waugh era to add a contemporary voice to complement selectors Andrew Hilditch, David Boon and Merv Hughes, who played in the 1980s and are all of a similar vintage, Sydney Morning Herald reported.

It wants someone with current insights who is familiar with players in the under-17 and under-19 systems.

But, the Australian board is finding hard in the job since majority of modern players leave the game with more lucrative opportunities in the media or business world.

The report said former Test opener and now Channel Nine commentator Michael Slater refused the job when the last vacancy arose after the resignation of former chairman Trevor Hohns.
