27 AIADMK men arrested for attacking DMK activist
Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu Oct 15 (UNI) Police today arrested 27 AIADMK party activists for damaging the residence of DMK member Kengan and injuring four people last night over squabbles in connection with the first phase of the Tamil Nadu local body elections on October 13.
Police said Das, who hails from Thammanur near here is the secretary of the AIADMK district union panchayat. His sister-in-law, Anjalai had contested for Thammanur village panchayat on the 'Light' symbol. Kegan's wife Vanita contested for village panchayat president post on the 'Lorry' symbol.
When Vanita went to exercise her franchise on October 13, a AIADMK party member Murthy allegedly used foul language for her Enraged Vanita complained to his brother-in-law Raghupathy, who had a spat with the AIADMK member. This infuriated Murthy, who went with his party supporters and attacked the residence of Kengan.
A police party, rushed to the spot, made necessary arrangements to tighten the security and ensured safety to Kengan's residence and surrounding areas.
The arrested were taken to Vellore Central Prison, police added.
