Vaghela inaugurates Carpet India Expo
Varanasi, Oct 14 (UNI) Union Minister for Textiles Shanker Singh Vaghela here today inaugurated the Carpet India Expo, an annual carpet festival.
Addressing the inaugural function, Mr Vaghela lauded the efforts of the Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC) in organising the grand exhibition of quality carpets before the premier buyers from across the globe.
The minister, however, exhorted the carpet industry to focus on streamlining carpet processing and design especially in wollen and hand-notted carpets, which have been the traditional strength of the Indian carpet industry.
He further appealed the carpet exporters to maintain cost parity with rival exporting nations and stressed on the seminal aspect of quality control, besides making use of latest technology to standardise their products.
A total of 153 stalls have been put up by exporters from across the country, which were likely to attract over 140 premier buyers from 25 countries.
Last evening, Mr Vaghela gave away awards in export excellence to the carpet exporters on national and regional level for the years 2003-04 and 2004-05.
