Ukraine's Sergej Wassin catches up with Russian Sergey Krylov

Margao, Oct 14 (UNI) Ukraine's Sergej Wassin and Russian former world champion Sergey Krylov shared joint lead with 4.5 points each after five rounds of the XI individual Chess championships for the blind, organized by the All India Chess Federation for the Blind at Varca in South Goa.

In a stunning game, FIDE Master Sergej Wassin won against Rafal Gunajew from Ploand. After round four both were in the joint second position with 3.5 points. Rafal Gujajew made a blunder of capturing a pawn with a bishop where white has traded a rook for two minor pieces. Again in 21st move he made a blunder, hence losing a Queen in discovered attack and laid down arms to Wassin.

Sergey Krylov drew with Swedish Jorgen Magnusson in an exciting fifth round match up. Magnusson started with a Queen's gambit declined. Krylov launched a queen side attack and both were stuck in an unusual position. Sensing a bit of danger Krylov exchanged his queen despite knowing that it will be saddled with an exhange down Magnusson had to wriggle out his rook and after 37 moves both gladly agreed for a draw.

India's Swapnil Shah drew againt Stephan Zaza from Crotia.

Playing with white pieces Swapnil started with the Ros Olimo attack of the Sicilian defence and drew after 37 moves. Vasant Patil drew his game with Micheal Delaney of Ireland. Srikrishna Uddapa drew with German Hans Bischoff. Playing with white pieces Uddapa opened with the Ross Olimo attack of the Sicilian defence to move in an advantageous position. But he could not break the defence of his opponent and both agree on a draw. Uddapa has three points after five rounds.

Rajesh Oza beat German Elisabeth Fries whereas Darshan Patel lost in Istvan Vojan of Hungary and Gaurav Gadodia lost to Boris Rosistan from Lithuania.
