Tripura gets Financial awards from Centre

Agartala, Oct 14 (UNI) The Union Government has awarded Rs.2.2 crore to Tripura's Tribal Welfare department for its exceptional work for upliftment of tribal people in the state.

The cash award was given for 2005-06, according to State Tribal Welfare Minister Jitendra Chowdhury.

He said an estimated Rs.16.87 crore was set aside by the department for welfare of the tribal people as special aid scheme for for 2006-07.

The amount will be invested for rubber cultivation, agriculture and horticulture to make poor people self-sufficent, he added.
