Six persons seriously injured in political clash

Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Oct 14 (UNI) Six persons were seriously injured in a clash today on the eve of local body polls at Cappermalai near here.

The scuffle started when Kumar of PMK contesting for Panchayat Union Council had a clash with the Independent candidate Bhaskar for extending his support to the Dalit Panthers of India(DPI) candidate Purushotaman.

Police said infuriated Purushotaman came with his followers and attacked Kumar and his followers who retaliated. The fighting continued for four hours. In the melee, a resident's house of the area was set on fire and 24 other houses were damaged.

The injured, including a PMK member were admitted to Cuddalore General Hospital.

A case has been registered and an investigtion was underway, police added.
