Sharma calls for direct connection between students, industry

Gandhinagar, Oct 14 (UNI) Gujarat Governor Nawal Kishore Sharma today said universities, academic institutions and teachers should stress more on practical training and a direct connection between students and the industry.

Inaugurating the 25th annual conference of Gujarat Statistical Association here, Mr Sharma exhorted experts to stick to the true statistical data and not to indulge in misleading ones.

He said Statistics could prove anything, so consulting statisticians had to be alert to uphold the authenticity of the tools and techniques.

The Governor said the higher education system in general and the universities in particular will have to equip themselves to play a greater role in creating professionals and technicians.

The mission of higher education should be achieved by coherence in policy and practices. There was an urgent need to prepare the universities to accept the change and all the important steps to facilitate it.

Gujarat University Vice Chancellor Dr Parimal Trivedi said there was a wide gap between classroom teaching and praticals and in this, Statistics could be the tool to bridge the gap.
