Selection for Punjab's swimming, gymnastics squads at Ludhiana

Chandigarh, Oct 14 (UNI) The Punjab Sports Department will conduct selection trials in gymnastics and swimming at the Guru Nanak Dev Stadium in Ludhiana on Monday to select the state squads for the National Women Sports Championship, Group I to be held from November 6 to 9 at Chennai.

According to Sports Director Pargat Singh, gymnastics trials will be conducted in balancing beam, vaulting table, uneven bar and floor exercises.

Swimming events are 100 m, 200 m and 400 m freestyle, 100 m butterfly, 100 m and 200 m breaststroke, 100 m and 200 m backstroke, 200 m Individual Medley, 4 x 100 m medley relay and 4x 100 m freestyle.

Interested players may report at the venue for the selection trials. Sportswomen of any age group and serving in State/Centre Government and belonging to Punjab are eligible for trials.

The selected players will attend a 15-day coaching camp before the National Women Sports Championship. During the coaching camp, the players would be provided a diet of Rs 75 per day per player, sports equipment, accommodation and free training.

The final selection would be made during the coaching camp. The selection of Punjab basketball team was done at Ropar during the Punjab State Games for Women held from September 25 to 27.
