Security aspects to be looked into before clearing Vizhinjam port:

New Delhi, Oct 14 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today justified the Centre not clearing the Vizhinjam port in Kerala on account of security concerns.

Certain security aspects have been raised in the construction of the port, Dr Singh said.

''Whether it is a Chinese company or any other company involved, we have to assess the security aspect,'' the Prime Minister told mediapersons during his return journey from the UK and Finland.

On the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, he said the Jeeva Reddy Committee had submitted its report, which was under consideration of the government. ''I cannot say that we can take early action. We have to understand the gravity of the situation prevailing in various parts of the country, including the North-East and Jammu and Kashmir,'' he added.
