LONDON, Oct 14 (Reuters) Manchester United came from behind to beat Wigan Athletic 3-1 and retain top slot in the Premier League today.

Defender Leighton Baines gave Wigan a shock lead after only four minutes at the JJB Stadium with a stunning left-foot shot from 25 metres that gave United keeper Edwin van der Sar no chance.

United, who beat Wigan in last season's League Cup final in February, took control of the game but had to wait nearly an hour before turning it around with two goals in four minutes.

Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic headed in a Ryan Giggs corner on 62 minutes and Louis Saha showed great skill to control a cross and flash the ball in off the post in the 66th minute.

Norwegian striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer steered home the third in stoppage time of a game that lifted United three points clear of champions Chelsea, who play Reading in the day's late kickoff.
