8 new releases to hit marquee in Kollywood

Chennai, Oct 14: Eight new releases are all set to hit the marquee in Kollywood this Diwali, something happening for the first time during the last ten years which the trade pundits say has the potential to work up film buffs as well as the Tamil Film Industry into a frenzy.

However, with the box-office in Kollywood doing good business particularly with some small budget films, producers of the traditional 'Diwali releases' have kept their fingers crossed and are hoping for the success.

''Everything depends on the story and the confidence a producer or a director enjoys with the buyer. One must be able to sell his film on his own,'' a PRO told UNI.

From actors' point of view, this Diwali is going to be special for 'Supreme hero' Sarat Kumar, who would be making his debut as Director besides playing the lead role in his actress wife Radhika's production 'Thalaimagan'.

''Sarat would also be reaching the milestone of 100 with this film. None of his three films, released since last year, had done well for Sarat who was in the political limelight early this year.

He had switched allegiance to the then ruling AIADMK from the DMK for whom he was a Rajya Sabha MP.

The box-office is pinning hopes on another dark-skinned actor Vijayakant, who recently launched new party DMDK and was also emerged the lone winner to make his debut as an MLA.

With his latest release, 'Perarasu', which had not done well on the box-office, Vijayakant also looks forward to 'Dharmapuri', produced by the man A M Ratnam. He plays a 'do gooder' in the film.

Another young actor Simbu, son of actor-director-writer and musician T Rajenther, will be wielding the megaphone for the first time with 'Vallavan,' which also holds hopes of good entertainment for his fans. For Ajay, who had given up his foray into Motor Racing as an F3 driver in the English circuit, the run of good luck at the box-office could continue. His previous film 'Tirupati' for the prestigious AVM productions banner was a hit.

He hopes 'Varalaru' (History), originally titled in English 'Godfather' and then changed to avail of entertainment tax waiver and subsidy from the state government for Tamil-titled films, would bring him another hit.

The Diwali would also be special for action hero Arjun, who has not had a release for a long time. His 'Vaathiyar' made by A Venkatesan is being looked forward to by his fans, who love the slam-bang action he doles out on the screen often.

Other films lined up for the release include 'Ee' starring Jeeva and directed by S P Jagannathan, revolving around smuggling and terrorism, with a lot of technical glitz, -- 'Kizhakku Kadarkarai' starring Srikkanth directed by S S Stanley and 'Vattaram' directed by Saran, who is also the maker of hits like 'Paarthen Rasithen'.
