Ranvir Sena's area commander gunned down

Varanasi, Oct 14 (UNI) A self-styled area commander of the banned Ranvir Sena, active in neihbouring Bihar, was gunned down by the district police in Lanka area here today.

A pistol of American make and six live cartridges have been seized from the spot.

Police said Surendra Ojha-- a native of Arah (Bihar) and the self-styled area commander of the banned Ranvir Sena -- private army of the upper caste in Bihar -- was gunned down by police in Dafi area.

An aide of the slain criminal, however, managed to escape.

The area commander, among other cases, was involved in the massacre committed by Ranvir Sena in Vathani Tola area of Bihar in 1994, police said.

A self-styled area commander of the banned Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) in Bihar was gunned down in an encounter in Sigra area on Wednesday last.
