Rail traffic disrupted on Ambala-Amritsar line
Jalandhar, Oct 13 (UNI) Train traffic on the up line tracks on the Delhi-Amritsar route remained disrupted for about three hours following break down in the overhead railway power supply and failure in the Sachcchkhand Express' engine between Phillaur and Goraya, about 40 Km from here, this evening.
Railway sources said here that the train was heading for Amritsar from Nanded when overhead railway power supply failed amid high velocity wind and dust storm near Phillaur. As soon as the railway officials restored the power supply the engine of the train developed snag.
Railway officials then arranged alternative engine for the train and cleared it for its destination.
This had disrupted the traffic on the line as several trains including Delhi Amritsar Shatabdi Express, Hardwar Amritsar Janshatabdi, Delhi Amritsar Superfast and the Sachchakhand Express remained stranded at different points for one to three hours.
Meanwhile, dust storm accompanied by high velocity winds and vigorous rains this evening also disrupted normal life in the city.
Power supply in several localities of the city remained disrupted for several hours.
Road traffic on the busy Grand Trunk Road was also disrupted for sometime following fall of trees during storm near Goraya.
