New Delhi, Oct 14 (UNI) The Delhi Police today clarified on reports in a section of the press on the allegations made against it regarding the suicide of an Inspector yesterday.

In a statement issued today, Delhi Police spokesman Dependra Pathak said Inspector Devender Manchanda had been under suspension since 2004 for dereliction of duty and misconduct.

He was facing a departmental inquiry and his appeal to the Central Administrative Tribunal and the High Court for relief had been found ''without merit.'' All steps taken in the matter were based on routine administrative institutionalised procedures of the Delhi Police and in line with its high standards of probity in public life, it added.

Manchanda was found dead near Gopal Das Towers in Connaught Place's outer circle yesterday. He had committed suicide and blamed his seniors for his extreme step.
