No impact of bandh in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Oct 14 (UNI) The bandh called by Revolutionary Democratic Front (RDF) to protest against arrest of three of Maoists near Rourkela had no impact in Orissa.

Official sources said normal life prevailed in almost all the the places in the state, including the stronghold of the Maoists, and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere during the day.

The authority had beefed up the security arrangement in southern Orissa districts and all the areas bordering Chhatishgarh and Jharkhand apprehending trouble during the bandh period.

The vehicular movement was less in the Naxalite strong hold of Malkangiri, Gajapati and Rayagada districts where some transport operators preferred not to ply their vehicles.

Business establishments and educational institutions remained open in all the districts. Today being the second Saturday, all the government offices remained closed.

East Coast Railway sources said the train services were not affected following the bandh call. The authority, however, made security arrangement at some of the important stations falling under the stronghold of the Naxalites in Southern and Western Orissa.
