NIO scientist Dr Ramachandra becomes INSA fellow
Panaji, Oct 14: Dr V Ramachandra Rao, a senior sedimentologists at the prestigious National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) here, has been elected as the coveted fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi.
With about 26 years of experience in the field, Mr Rao has a keen interest in research on the role of micro-organisms in the formation of authigenic minerals including phosphorite, dolomites and oolites.
He had contributed 55 reseach papers to various journals of national and international repute, NIO sources said here yesterday.
His significant contribution was on understanding of the transport pathways of the fine-grained sediments, late quarternary sea level changes and neo-tectonic activity along the westren margin of India.
Dr Rao is also a fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and recipient of several awards including UNESCO-ROSTSCA Young Scientist Award, CSIR Young Scientist Award and the National Mineral Award.
