Need for bridging gaps in data, says Forest Principal Secretary

Shimla, Oct 14 (UNI) Scientific and technological information was necessary for socio-economic development of the country and ENVIS centres were playing a pivotal role in providing environment relating information to policy makers, scientists, researchers, environmentalists and students, a top state forest official today said.

Addressing the concluding session on the third day of the National Workshop on Environment Information System (ENVIS) here, Forest Principal Secretary Ashok Thakur stressed the need for bridging data gap and improving information availability for socio-economic development of the country.

He said Himachal had completely banned green felling in the state to protect its ecology, adding that 75 ENVIS centres were engaged in the country on various environment gathering and compiling data in a user friendly way.
