Naidu demands resignation of AP CM in clemency case

Hyderabad, Oct 14 (UNI) Telegu Desam Party (TDP) Chief N Chandrababu Naidu today demanded the resignation of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy over clemency to Congress leader Gouru Venkata Reddy, in view of the Supreme Court's decision to set aside the clemency given by the then Governor Sushilkumar Shinde, on the recommendation of the State Government.

Talking to newspersons here, he said it was ridiculous on the part of the Chief Minister to say that he had signed clemency petition file without going through it, as he had to sign five to six hundred files every day. The state would be in a dangerous position in the hands of an executive head, who did not even read a file before signing it, he alleged.

Mr Naidu alleged that Dr Reddy was only trying to evade his constitutional responsibility by stating that he had signed the clemency petition without reading it.

He said the AICC should direct Dr Reddy to resign. He would meet the President APJ Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to dismiss Dr Reddy, if he refused to resign, he added.

Meanwhile, Venkata Reddy husband of party legislature Gouru Charita Reddy told newspersons at Nandikotkuru in Kurnool district that he had not influenced the Government about the clemency and asserted that he was given parole twice during the TDP regime for his ''good conduct''.
