MUJ condemns attack on media during civic polls

Chennai, Oct 14 (UNI) The Madras Union of Journalists (MUJ) today condemned the attack on media persons during the first phase of civic elections in the city yesterday.

In a statement here, MUJ said the attack on media people was not only a direct threat to the media, but also to Democracy.

It was also an attack on the freedom of the press, it said and urged the Tamil Nadu government to take action against those involved in the incident.

The Tamil Nadu Union of Journalist also condemned the attack on journalists and demanded action against the police personnel involved in it. Union President Rabindra Dass, in a statement here tonight, said even at warfront the scribes were protected but in the civic polls they were targetted and attacked.
