MP tops in RCH implementation

Bhopal, Oct 14 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh topped in the implementation of the reproductive child health (RCH) with the joint review mission assigning 'A' grade to the state.

The mission comprises representatives of the UNFPA, European Commission, World Bank, WHO, UNICEF and DFID, besides the Health Ministry.

Health Minister Ajay Vishnoi said the mission had ranked MP at number one in terms of performance on process indicators including 24-hour PHCs conducting minimum ten deliveries per month, district programme management units being in place and development of district action plan, ANMs being in place and extent of funds utilization.

MP, which scored ten out of ten points, was followed by Orissa and Tripura, which were also given grade 'A', but with lesser points. Six states have earned grade 'B' , four states grade 'C' and five states got grade 'D'.

In Madhya Pradesh, the mission appreciated the process of urban consultation meetings. MP is among few states which started implementing multi-skill training programme for doctors. The state is implementing innovative approaches to partner with the private sector for improving access to safe motherhood services including referral transport for pregnant women.

The mission observed that Madhya Pradesh has established alternate vaccine delivery system and the acceptance of NSV has increased in the state. It also appreciated the accreditation of NGO training institute in safe abortion services.

Mr Vishnoi said Madhya Pradesh was the only state in the country to have implemented integrated district action plans. Introduction of several innovative schemes led to a positive change in the health scenario Promotion of institutional deliveries resulted in increasing institutional deliveries to 42 percent from 26 percent a year ago, Mr Vishnoi added.
