Kalam turns 75 tomorrow
New Delhi, Oct 14 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam, who turns 75 tomorrow, will perhaps achieve a unique distinction of remaining out of Rashtrapati Bhavan for all the five birthdays during his tenure at his Raisina Hills office here.
Dr Kalam, who was born in 1931 in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu, will spend the day tomorrow with under-privileged students in Bangalore, where he will also address a function organised by the Foundation for Unity of Enlightened Citizens.
The President, who leaves for Bangalore tonight, will return here only on the late evening of October 17 after visiting Assam and Manipur as well, a Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesman said.
Dr Kalam has, in fact, made it a point to remain out of Delhi on his birthdays ever since he assumed the office of President on July 25, 2002. It has always been business as usual for the President even on his birthdays which he does not celebrate. Normally, he prefers to spend the day with under-privileged students, the spokesman said.
