Jogi opposes 'Salwa Judum' campaign in Bastar

Raipur, Oct 14 (UNI) Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi today said the tribals of Bastar were sandwiched between the naxals and activists of 'Salwa Judum', the ongoing movement against Maoists.

Addressing a public meeting, which was attended by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, he said police were harassing the tribals, accusing them of being naxals, while the Maoists were on killing spree, branding them as police informers.

Besides, several 'Salwa Judum' members were utilising it as an opportunity to harass poor masses.

''Poor tribals are being killed. There is a need to take urgent steps to save them,'' he said and reminded the Congress president that elected representatives of Bastar had met her earlier to apprise about the situation in Bastar.

Leader of Opposition in assembly Mahendra Karma, who is spearheading the Salwa Judum campaign in Bastar, was also present at the public meeting.
