BJP to watch if PM will get Lalu's resignation

New Delhi, Oct 14: The BJP today said the Gujarat High Court had slapped the UPA for indulging in blatant vote bank politics to help the accused in the Godhra carnage and the party would wait for a couple of days if Railway Minister Lalu Prasad would be dismissed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh if he were not to quit the ministry.

BJP Spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the Court was clear that the Interim report of former Supreme Court Judge U C Banerjee Committee appointed by Mr Yadav ahead of Bihar Assembly elections was a 'colourable exercise and malafide action' 31 months after Justice Nanavati Commission was appointed to go into the issue. The Committee which came up with a strange theory of fire emanating within the S6 coach on Sabarmati Express had not recommended any safety measure which spoke volumes about the intent of the whole exercise. The Committee did not even go into the report of the Railways Claim Board which had awarded claims for the victim as the fire was caused because of the attack by the mob on the train.

The Ministry never challenged this report before appointing an alternate inquiry.

He said the UPA had appointed the Committee to get the 'desired findings' and used the retired judge to tailor its political game plan. The Central POTA committee had confirmed charges levelled against the accused persons and even the Supreme Court refused to grant bail. The Court had also stayed the UPA's efforts to let the accused off the hook by appointing Zonal POTA review committee filled with convenient members on the Board.

The findings of the Banerjee Committee were so 'illogical and absurd' that it went to the extent of suggesting the Karsevaks travelling on S6 coach had committed mass suicides. "The BJP reiterates its demand for dismissal of Mr Yadav for using a former judge to further his political agenda and playing with the basic tenets of federalism,'' he said.
