First confirmed dengue case in Shimla

Shimla, Oct 14 (UNI) Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh has reported first case of dengue in the state and the patient has been admitted to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) for treatment, hospital sources said.

Pradeep, 30, a resident of Kotkhai area of Shimla district, has been admitted to male medical ward after his blood sample reports confirmed that he was suffering from dengue fever.

The sources said he was in Delhi on October two, to see off his relatives and stayed at Panipat where he contracted the disease.

He was admitted to the IGMC on October eight after he suffered from high fever for five days, the sources said, adding another suspected case of dengue fever was undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The IGMC senior Medical Superintendent H S Chauhan confirmed that a dengue fever patient was undergoing treatment in the hospital, while test reports of another suspected patient were awaited.

He said the patients were undergoing treatment and urged people not to panic.
