Puducherry, Oct 14 (UNI) AICC general secretary V Narayansamy, MP, today urged the Puducherry administration to drop the proposal to acquire about 900 acres of land at different areas here to set up satellite towns.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the administration had given advertisements in the print media for acquiring about 900 acres of land at Reddiyarpalayam, Arumparthapuram, Odeanpet, among other places, which would affect 10,000 small farmers in these areas.

Pointing out that Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi had shelved such an idea following objections from the farmers, the Congress leader said and urged Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy also to drop the move.

Stating that he had called on Lt Governor Mukut Mithi last night and sought his intervention on the issue, Mr.Narayansamy recalled that Congress President Sonia Gandhi while speaking at the recent Nainital conclave had said that fertile lands should not be utilised for setting up Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
