Diamond trader's son murdered in extortion bid

Surat, Oct 14: The son of a diamond trader in the city was murdered by a group of people who wanted to extort Rs 10 lakh as ransom money from the trader, Detection unit of Crime Branch informed here today.

The incident took place yesterday, at Katargam area, DCB sources said.

According to DCB sources, Sanket Vaghani, the 12-year old son of Raju Vaghani, a diamond trader based in Katargam, was abducted by a group of persons on Thursday night. After the abduction, the culprits started demanding Rs 10 lakh as ransom money, for returning the child.

Yesterday, police laid a trap and took the culprits into custody.

But when the police arrived the spot at where Sanket was kept, they found him dead.

Police have arrested three persons in connection with the crime and investigation is on.
