Dejected prisoner attemtps suicide

Puducherry, Oct 14 (UNI) In yet another case of attempted suicide a prisoner lodged in the central prison here tried to end his life.

According to police, 30-year-old Charlse, an undertrial prisoner lodged in the jail in connection with a murder at Ariyankuppam near here had applied for parole in view of Deepavali. However, it was rejected on the grounds that he was lodged in the prison just two months back.

Dejected over the refusal, Charlse mixed ''Shikakai powder'' with water and consumed it. He was rushed to the government general hospital for treatment.

On thursday, three life convicts had attempted to commit suicide in same manner after their application for parole was rejected while another prisoner consumed bleaching powder on Wednesday.
