Bank credit grows by 29.7 pc YOY as on Sept-end

Mumbai, Oct 14: Credit disbursed by scheduled commercial banks grew by 29.7 per cent on year on year (YOY) basis as on September 29, 2006 to Rs 16,54,734 crore as reported by RBI in it's weekly statistical supplement of October 13, 2006.

The bank credit as on September 29, 2006 looked more tilted towards the non-food sector.

The credit to the food sector was reduced by Rs 6091 crore from September 30, 2005 to September 15, 2006. Out of total disbursement, an amount of Rs 33,458 crore was allocated to the food sector. The balance sum, i.e Rs 16,21,276 crore, was allocated to the non-food sector.

On September 29, 2006, the credit-deposit ratio stood at 71.87, while the cash-deposit ratio and investment deposit ratio were 6.71 and 32.70 respectively.

The total liabilities of the scheduled commercial banks to the banking system for the above period rose by Rs 439 crore to Rs 76,404 crore. Moreover, their liabilities to others also increased.

They shot up by Rs 8,03,771 crore to Rs 49,06,630 crore.

During the period under consideration, the aggregate deposits grew by 19.7 per cent.
