Andhra impresses while Goa, Kerala caved in meekly

Hyderabad, Oct 14 (UNI) Goa and Kerala were bundled out for paltry scores in their first innings, while Andhra made 228 for the loss of five wickets against Tamil Nadu in the South Zone U-22 cricket tournament begun here today.

Goa, electing to bat first, were all out for 159 in 79.3 overs, as their batsmen could not withstand the torrid pounding of Hyderabad bowling. Hyderabad bowlers MP Arjun (4/53) and PSS Bharat Kumar Varma (3/33) had caused havoc. Hyderabad, in reply, made 22 without loss in eight overs at stumps.

In another match, Kerala elected to bat were bundled out for a paltry 149 off 85.5 overs. Karnataka bowlers Raju Bhaktal (3/18), Appanna (2/29) Chetan Williams (2/19) shone well with the ball.

Karnataka, in reply, made six runs for no loss in three overs at stumps.

In the other match, Andhra's V Sandeep hit a patient 70 runs, studded with eleven fours. while Sashavali made 41 with four boundaries. V Yomahesh (2/52) and Ashwin (3/61) were the pick of the Tamil Nadu bowlers.

Scores: At Rajiv Gandhi Stadium: Goa 1st innings 159 all out in 79.3 overs. Hyderabad 1st innings 22/0 in 8 overs.

At Gymkhana grounds: Kerala 1st innings 149 all out in 85.5 overs.

Karnataka 1st innings 6/0 in 3 overs.

At NFC grounds: Andhra 1st innings 228/5 in 90 overs.
