Veteran Journalist dies
Vijayawada, Oct 13 (UNI) Veteran Journalist and former editor of 'Prajasakthi', a CPI (M) organ, Bomma Reddy Venkateswara Rao, popularly known as 'Bomma Reddy' died at his residence here this evening.
He was 90 and leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son.
Mr Reddy was ailing for sometime.
His funeral will take place here tomorrow and would be attended by CPI(M) Polit Bureau member B V Raghuvalu, according to party sources here.
Mr Reddy was born in Telaprolu village in Krishna district in 1917. He completed his primary education at his village and secondary education at Gannavaram . He took his BA degree from Madras University.
He started his journalistic career by joining Prajasakthi daily in 1945. He worked in Janavani for some time. Later he joined in Visalandra (present CPI organ) for 12 years. After formation of CPI(M)), he worked for the party's newspaper, Prajasakthi.
He worked as a journalist in various capacities for 52 years from 1945 to 1997. He was elected as Vice-President of Andhra Pradesh Working Journalists Union twice and once to press club, Vijayawada, as President.
He wrote more than 50 books including translations.
He was the first recipient of 'Narla Viseshta journalist award' in 1999.
