Velu hurt in accident in AP

Mahaboobnagar, Andhra Pradesh, Oct 13 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Railways R Velu, his wife Malliga Velu and security officer were injured when the car in which they were travelling was hit by a van near Vatavarlapally Village of Amrabad Mandal in the district today.

Police said the couple were proceeding to Hyderabad from Srisailam when the accident happened. The Minister, who suffered injury to his hand and shoulder, was initially admitted to a hospital in Achampet.

Immediately after being given first aid, Mr Velu, Ms Malliga Velu and security officer Srinivas were shifted to Hyderabad, where they are undergoing treatment at Railway Hospital.

Mr Velu's condition was reported to be stable.

The Minister was supposed to attend the Ruby Jubilee Celebrations of South Central Railway(SCR) tomorrow in which Railway Minister Lalu Prasad was scheduled to take part.
