UKD activists protests delimitation process
Dehra Dun, Oct 13 (UNI) Activists of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal today tried to storm the Nagar Nigam Hall to protest against the delimitation process.
Scores of UKD activists gathered at Nagar Nigam premises and raised slogans against delimitation and demanded to return of the commission, headed by Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami.
Uttarakhand Kranti Dal had been protesting the proposed delimitation draft, which is likely to reduce the number of constituencies in the hill areas.
The party has a strong hold in the hilly areas of the state. It had earlier demanded a discussion on the issue when the Assembly was in session and had staged a walk out when its demand was turned down. UKD leader Kashi Singh Airy had earlier announced to protest all the hearings in the state. Another UKD leader Divakar Bhatt has been sitting on an indefinite hunger strike at Chandrakut Parvat at Tehri Garhwal since October 2.
BJP MP from Tehri, Manvendra Singh, who is also a member of the Delimitation Commission, boycotted the hearings. He said the delimitation on area basis would reduce the existing nine constituencies in Tehri to six.
