Training programme for potato farmers
Agartala, Oct 13: Indian Council of Agricultural Research(ICAR) in association with the state agriculture department is organising a two-day workshop cum training programme on potato production from today at Bagafa, Santirbazar in South Tripura district.
The programme, to be mainly conducted by the Central Potato Research Institute, Shimla, will disseminate the modern technique for enhancing potato production and productivity in the state.
The programme is also aimed at training farmers about modern techniques of protection of potato crops from pest diseases.
Incidentally, farmers in the state face huge losses due to the attack of potato blight, a pest affecting potato plants.
Many agricultural scientists from the state and Central Government Research Organisations will take part in the training programme. Among others, Zila Sabhadhipati of South Tripura and Chairman of Agriculture Standing Committee of South Tripura will be present in the programme.
