3 runover by train, mob torches railway station

Lucknow, Oct 13: Irate mob torched Harauni railway station on the busy Lucknow-Kanpur rail route of the Northern Railway following the crushing of three youths by 1123 UP Chapra-Gawalior express train this morning.

Several long distance express trains including Pushpak, Chitrakoot and others are stranded at different stations following agitation by the local villagers after the accident.

Sources at the police state head quarter here said that two people died on the spot near Harauni station, 25 kilometers from the state capital, while another succumbed to his injury on way to the hospital. All the deceased belonged to the Tirma village near the accident site.

After the incident, irate mob damaged the Harauni station and damaged the communication system of the busy route. The protestors were still agitating on the tracks demanding adequate compensation for the deceased and action against the guilty rail officials.

According to reports the mob also ransacked the station master office and even manhandled the officer.

The bodies of the two deceased were still lying on the track even as large contingent of police force have been rushed to the spot along with officials.

Meanwhile railway officials have rushed to the spot with relief van while efforts are being made to rectify the communication system.
