Thousands join cleanliness campaign in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 13 (UNI) Thousands of people from all walks of life, including government employees, police, medical personnel, students, teachers, labourers and NGO workers today joined the state-wide cleanliness campaign to check the spread of epidemics like chikungunya in the state.

Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan launched the state-wide campaign at Connemera Market at Palayam in the city.

Throughout the state, the campaign picked up with the entire community joining hands in the cleanliness drive. Litter was removed from roads, gutters declogged and heaped up wastes taken away for disposal from market places while hospitals, schools and premises of government offices were cleaned and sanitised.

The volunteers made out house-to-house visits to tell people to keep their surroundings clean as the basic step to ward off epidemics.
