Procession taken out against 'unscientific' onion MSP
Hubli, Oct 13 (UNI) The Karnataka State Farmers Action Committee, an apolitical organisation, today took out a procession here, condemning the ''unscientific'' minimum support price (MSP) for onion announced by the State Government.
The agitators set a deadline of October 15 to the State Government to fix MSP at a minimum of Rs 800 per quintal and threatened to lay seige to the Deputy Commissioner's office at Dharwad if their demand was not met.
It may be recalled that Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had yesterday announced MSP for three categories of onion -- Rs 400, Rs 270 and Rs 100 -- following a steep fall in prices. He had also instructed the Agricultural Produce Marketing Commitee to release Rs two crore for purchase of onion as a market intervention operation.
