NTPC to produce 50 MT coal by 2017

New Delhi, Oct 13 (UNI) State-owned power major NTPC plans to produce around 50 metric tonnes of coal by year 2017 to meet 20-25 per cent of its total coal requirement from its own mines, company's Chairman and Managing Director T Sankaralingam said here today.

Ministry of Coal had recently approved the mining plan of production capacity of 15 metric tonnes per annum of coal for Pakri Barwadih, the largest ever capacity of any mining plan approved by the government.

NTPC has been allotted eight coal mining blocks including Pakri Barwadih, Kerandari, Chattibariatu, Chattrisal, Dulanga, Talaipalli, Brahmini and Chichro Patsimal including two blocks to be operated by 50:50 joint venture with Coal India Ltd (CIL).

The enviornment clearance for the first phase has been obtained, company said.
