Jan Morcha, allies call upon Guv to save UP
Lucknow, Oct 13 (UNI) Former Prime Minister V P Singh's Jan Morcha (JM) and its allies have urged Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar to intervene in the ''wrongdoings'' of the Mulayam Singh Yadav government to prevent a ''complete democratic and constitutional collapse'' in the state.
The JM along with CPI (ML), Nationalist Congress Party and Progressive Democratic Forum (PDF) had called upon the governor at Raj Bhawan yesterday to apprise him of the ''unethical'' activities of the Samajwadi Party regime.
Talking to mediapersons here, CPI (ML) secretary Akhilendra Pratap Singh said a memorandum had also been handed over to the governor on use of ''barbaric'' force to crush the democratic rights of people. ''The situation is grave in UP with reports of starvation deaths and farmers' suicide being received from Bundelkhand.'' He alleged it was unfortunate that farmers were being handed over cheque for Rs 3 to Rs 25 for loss in drought.
PDF general secretary Nehaluddin, raising the recent communal flare up in Barabanki, said it was a conspiracy hatched by the ruling party to polarise the vote bank.
JM (women wing) general secretary Vandana Mishra said farmers were the most harrassed lot in the present regime.
NCP state president Ramesh Dixit said the government had failed to protect the interests of common people and before there was any constitutional crisis, the Governor should intervene to dismiss the government.
