Encyclopedia of marathi actresses on web

Mumbai, Oct 13 (UNI) An encyclopedic website - www.marathitaraka.com - of all actress of Marathi cinema since 1913 has been launched here.

A brainchild of filmmaker Mahesh Tilekar, the website launched yesterday is an authentic textual information accompanied by rare photographs of the actresses. The journey begins with Kamala Gokhale, actor Vikram Gokhale's grandmother who was the first female star of Marathi film industry.

Among the actresses profiled on the website are Durga Khote, Shobana Samarth, Lalita Pawar, Shanta Apte, Lila Chitnis, Hansa Wadkar, Sulochana, Jayashree Gadkar, Seema, Asha Kale, Ranjana, Alka Kubal, Varshan Usgaonkar, Madhura Velankar, Deepa Parab, Sarika Nilatkar among others.

Talking to UNI, Tilekar said as many as 97 heroines of Marathi cinema have been profiled. On being asked why he had only female stars on the site, the filemake replied that Marathi cinema was female dominated.

''You will find more actresses than actors. But, I plan to include leading actors of the industry and about films soon,'' he added.

Tilekar said this is the first website of its kind in the history of Marathi film industry and his motto was to ''make available authentic information about these actresses to their fans across the globe,'' he added.

The website was launched by veterans of Marathi cinema like Jayashree Gadkar, Nilu Phule and Amrita Rao, whose film 'Vivah' is releasing next month.
